Planting eucalyptus

Eucalyptus is plant preferably in the fall or early spring.

It grows relatively quickly and no special maintenance is required.

  • Choose a rather sunny location and ideally sheltered from strong winds
  • Mix the soil of your garden with potting soil when planting
  • Take care to water the first year after planting

Good mulching will prevent weeds from invading the base of the tree and will protect the roots from the cold in winter, especially during the first years.

Maintenance and pruning of eucalyptus

Very easy to maintain, eucalyptus does not require any care when properly installed.

Rather hardy, eucalyptus does not experience any common disease. It is sometimes subject to psyllid attacks.

On the other hand, it is sometimes sensitive to cold and most varieties of eucalyptus do not resist temperatures below -5 °.

  • A good mulching at the foot during the first years should help it to pass the winter frosts well.

Properly prune an eucalyptus:

No pruning is necessary but if you need to reduce or balance its branches, prefer spring or late summer for pruning.
